| macOS | Windows | Linux | |
|---|---|---|---|

| Libraries | – | – | libsecret-1-dev, libxkbfile-dev |
git clone https://github.com/yaghobieh/ingot.git
cd ingot
nvm use # Node 22
npm install # builds the Ingot extensions and downloads the built-in language plugins
npm run build:electron # bundle the desktop app
npm run start:electron # opens the Ingot desktop window
The first npm install takes a while because it downloads the bundled language plugins. If syntax highlighting is missing later, run npm run download:plugins again.
Prefer the browser? npm run build:browser && npm run start:browser serves Ingot at http://127.0.0.1:3100.
Installers
- macOS: open the
.dmgand drag Ingot to Applications. Beta builds are not notarized yet: open Ingot once, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. - Windows: run the
.exeinstaller. If SmartScreen warns about an unsigned early build, choose More info › Run anyway. - Linux:
chmod +x Ingot-*.AppImageand run it, orsudo apt install ./Ingot-*.deb.
On Windows and with the Linux AppImage, Ingot downloads updates in the background and installs them the next time you quit. On macOS this starts with the signed releases; until then, download the new version from the download page. .deb installs update with a new download.
System requirements
macOS 12 or later (Apple Silicon or Intel), Windows 10/11 64-bit, or a recent x64 Linux (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 38). 8 GB of memory is recommended (4 GB minimum) and about 1 GB of free disk. Local models need extra memory depending on the model.
