Agent chat & modes

The Agents tool window is where you talk to agents. Open a new chat with ⌥⌘N, browse history with ⌥⌘Y and send the current selection to the chat with ⇧⌘L.

Modes

Pick a mode from the composer, or cycle with ⌘. (Ctrl+. on Windows and Linux).

ModeWhat it does
AgentReads, edits and runs tools to complete the task. Edits arrive for review.
Multi-agentSplits the task across up to 4 sub-agents that work in parallel, then merges their results.
AskAnswers questions about your code. Read-only: no edits.
PlanResearches and writes a step-by-step plan before any code changes.
DebugReproduces the problem and reads up to the last 120 terminal lines and diagnostics to find the cause.

An agent can call tools for several rounds per turn (up to 5 tool rounds) before it answers.

Inline chips

Copy lines from the editor and paste them into the composer: instead of a wall of text you get a chip with the file name and line range, inline in your sentence. Images and @ mentions (files, folders, symbols) attach the same way.

Copying editor lines and pasting them into chat as a file + line-range chip.

Replies

Replies are Markdown with syntax-highlighted code blocks, tool calls you can expand, and links to the files the agent read.

The agent replies in Markdown with a code block, after reading the project rules.

Reviewing code changes

Edits arrive as a code-change block, one per file, and the editor shows each hunk inline with Accept and Reject buttons.

ActionShortcut
Accept fileCtrl+Y
Reject fileCtrl+N
Previous / next hunk⌥↑ / ⌥↓

Accepting or rejecting in the editor updates the chat block live, and the other way round. Nothing is written to disk until you accept.

Choosing a model

The model picker lists Auto first, then one row per model family. See Models & limits.
